Manage the whole life of your collection

Use one connected record from the day an item joins your railroad through storage, operation, maintenance, valuation, lending, and its eventual change of ownership.

Collection catalog

Know exactly what you own

Catalog locomotives, rolling stock, train sets and their child components, track, electronics, structures, tools, and wishlist items.

  • Manufacturer, model, road name, road number, scale, and condition
  • Search, filters, sorting, saved views, and bulk updates
  • Product-catalog links without mixing catalog data with your private records
Photos, documents, and value

Keep the evidence behind every model

Store protected photo galleries alongside receipts, appraisals, manuals, diagrams, reference files, and useful links.

  • Record purchase cost, MSRP, estimated, replacement, and appraised values
  • Track condition and provenance with the item
  • Create a photo-rich, insurance-ready PDF report
DCC and decoder records

Catch address conflicts before operating

Keep DCC numbers and decoder details beside the locomotives they control. TIM highlights duplicate DCC addresses that deserve review.

  • DCC address and decoder-description records
  • CV profiles for your own reference
  • Dashboard visibility for potential DCC conflicts
Workbench and lifecycle

Maintain, improve, and document

Record work already completed, schedule future service, and connect longer projects to every item involved.

  • Maintenance history and scheduled-service reminders
  • Projects linked to multiple inventory items
  • Stock movements and ownership lifecycle history
Storage and identification

Find the right model without opening every box

Build a hierarchy that matches the real collection—from room and cabinet down to shelf, drawer, box, bin, or case.

  • Assign each item to a structured physical location
  • Print item and storage QR labels
  • Use optional NFC-ready authenticated links
Personal and club inventories

Private for collectors, shared when a club needs it

Personal inventories stay private. A club can maintain a separate shared inventory with access appropriate to each participant.

  • Viewer, Editor, and Manager access levels
  • Membership requests and secure invitations
  • Shared club administration without exposing personal collections
Import, export, and backup

Bring existing records in—and keep a portable copy

Preview imports before they change an inventory. Review possible matches, choose each action, and roll back a completed import run when necessary.

  • CSV and workbook imports with duplicate matching
  • Complete CSV and JSON downloads
  • Portable backup and empty-inventory restore
Railroad-tool interoperability

Bridge TIM, JMRI, and RailModeller Pro

Exchange the records that belong in each tool instead of rebuilding locomotive and stock lists by hand.

  • Import and export JMRI locomotive rosters
  • Import RailModeller Pro Stock and Part List files
  • Export eligible stock in RailModeller Pro format

From first record to a useful collection history

TIM is designed to remain useful after the initial inventory project is finished.

1

Build the inventory

Add items individually or review an import. Organize records using categories, product details, ownership status, and storage locations.

2

Add supporting evidence

Attach photos, receipts, manuals, values, condition, DCC information, and provenance while the details are available.

3

Use it on the railroad

Track maintenance, projects, locations, loans, reminders, and optional layout operations as the collection changes.

Model train inventory questions

Can I try Train Inventory Manager before creating an account?

Yes. The interactive demo opens a prepared, fully populated private sandbox. No account is required, and demo changes expire automatically.

Is my personal model train inventory public?

No. Personal and club inventory workspaces require an authorized sign-in. The public homepage, Features page, Pricing page, and interactive demonstration contain no private member inventory records.

Can I import an existing spreadsheet?

Yes. TIM supports reviewed CSV and workbook imports. You preview the data, review possible duplicate matches, and choose what to import before records are changed.

Can I export or back up my collection?

Yes. TIM provides CSV and JSON downloads plus a portable backup package. Portable packages restore records, relationships, and protected files into an empty inventory.

Does TIM work for model railroad clubs?

Yes. The Club plan provides a shared club inventory with Viewer, Editor, and Manager access, membership requests, secure invitations, and club administration.
